I called the non emergency san diego police phone # this morning to get a vagrant off the table this morning. I have gotten a call twice today and I looked it up on google, which led me to this page. I havent been able to answer yet, but when I called the number back it has a recording of a man that says something like this is not a usable number. So I called the non emergency number again after reading these posts and spoke to a dispatcher who told me that this is a scam and said they are pretending to be the sheriffs department and/or police. But again, after the complaints listed, it all sounds fishy.Im just gonna block the number and call it a day.
Just got a call. Since Id ignored many previous calls from the same number, I decided this time to answer and play along. Guy claimed to have gotten my number from one of the payment companies; wanted to give me better debit or credit payment rates. He wanted me to read him off one of my statements what my rate was. I am not a merchant, which indicated that hed already told one lie. He claimed to be in Montreal, Quebec, but guy seemed very hesitant to tell me, so could have been an offshore call. Plus his English pronunciation was not typical.Once I told him I knew it was a scam, that my phone number was on the Do Not Call list, and that I was not a merchant, he hung up.
